In light of today’s release of the #Apple #iPhone 11 & 11 Pro, we thought now would be a good time to remind our readers about the latest ways #phone scammers have been gaining access to the personal information of #Smartphone users around the world… #Smishing” (using #SMS #technology to send text messages to phish for confidential information).

Everyday, a growing segment of the 20 Billion txt msgs sent each day are attempts at defrauding the mobile device owners of planet Earth. Typically, a scam texter will fake an issue with one of your financial accounts and ask you for info. They may pitch low mortgages, credit cards, or even gift cards. If you reply with personal information, your identity can be stolen. You may even begin receiving scam texts after entering contests. The fine print in #MobileApp user agreements may also grant permission to use or sell your phone number and even your contacts.

Here are a few tips to help you avoid getting scammed:

1) Never follow a text’s instructions to push a designated key to opt out of future messages. Instead, forward the questionable text to short code 7726, so cellphone carriers can block that sender.

2) You can further bolster defenses with call-blocking apps such as Hiya, Truecaller, NoMoRobo, and PrivacyStar.

Did you know that we also offer #Mobile Device Management? Be safe out there!
